Noel Kempff  Mercado is located in South America, namely Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It is one of the largest Natural Parks in the southern America, almost one million and a half hectares.

This Park was founded in June 1979,it was previously named Parque Nacional Huancacha. Nowadays the Park is named after Dr. Noel Kempff Mercado. The place was named after him because there is a story how him and a friend of his had flown to the Park in order to  develop some research but they landed by mistake at a clandestine cocaine laboratory and they were killed by the drug traffickers.

There are many legends about this place, for example there were found some rocks with human face characteristics and it is tought they belong to the natives Guarasug’we  that came from Paraguay and populated these lands.

There are two entrances that are available for visitors, both of them have tourism facilities, namely Flor de Oro is on the North side and the other one Los Fierros that is located on the South side of the park.

In the Park you can also visit the Noel Kempff site, there you can see many types of habitat like amazon rainforest or swamps or savannas and some other. A part of the site, the cerado habitats that are found on the Caparu Meseta provide almost 4,000 species of plants,621 species of birds, almost 80 species of reptiles, more than 60 species of amphibians. As well there can be found over 300 species of insects. Many endangered species live here in the Park.
All tours for visiting Noel Kempff Mercado start from Santa Cruz,it is a journey by plane to one of the visitor entrances, you can choose the Flor de Oro on the north side or Los Fierros on the South side.

Another amazing thing is that the Caparu plateau was discovered by two men, one of them was the British adventurer Percy Fawcet and the second one was the famous writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this discovery inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to write one of his famous successful novels “The Lost World”.

Noel Kempff Mercado is a wonderful location to visit because it is a place where yet human didn’t enter in order to modify it. The views in the Park are magnificent.
